Tenute Monte Astili, situated in the eastern province of Ogliastra in Sardinia, is located in one of the world's five Blue Zones.
The estate covers eight hectares, with four dedicated to Cannonau (Grenache) grape cultivation, surrounded by lush flora. The vineyard is situated on a 15° slope facing south, divided into two sections. The lower part consists of light-colored soil with fine limestone near the surface, while the upper sections have deeper, nutrient-rich soil with a variety of rocks from limestone to granite.
As a micro-boutique vineyard, we prioritize sustainable and low-intervention practices to craft elegant, terroir-driven wines.
Grape varieties
The vineyard is predominantly planted with Cannonau grapes, making up approximately 90% of the vines. The remaining vines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Vermentino, and Malvasia.
It consists of mature vines, with the first plantings dating back to the 1980s and the most recent additions made up until 2000. This gives an average age of 30+ years for the vineyard.
The vines in the vineyard are spaced over 2.5 meters apart at a low density, allowing each vine to have sufficient room to develop strong roots. The combination of mature vines and low density contributes to a high concentration of flavor in the fruit.
Cannonau di Sardegna is a DOC from the Italian island of Sardinia and indisputably its premier grape.
It is one of the oldest grape varieties of the Mediterranean and the local name for the Grenache.
The regions of Nuoro, Ogliastra, and Cagliari in the eastern part of Sardinia are known for producing some of the finest Cannonau di Sardegna wines.
These wines have become increasingly popular recently due to their association with longevity, as they are rich in anthocyanins and polyphenols, antioxidants that are beneficial for cardiovascular health.
We welcome you to explore our vineyard and enjoy a tasting session.
